The Smiths - This Charming Man

Hello!

I feel like I haven’t written on here for absolutely ages and as there isn’t much else to do on this lazy sunday morning, it seems a good enough time to upload a post!
I’m actually really surprised that I haven’t posted anything on here by The Smiths already as they are amazing, but better late than never eh?
As well as 'This Charming Man' being by far my favourite Smiths track (The intro is probably my favourite intro of all time), it was requested by a pretty fab lady at the hospital on Saturday and I want to dedicate a space to her in this post.

If you know me, you’ll know that what I love about life, is that you never stop meeting interesting people. Literally everyone has a story to tell and I’m fascinated to hear them.
One such person I was fortunate enough to meet a few weeks back, during my record request collecting, at the Hospital I volunteer at.
Before I could even ask her if she wanted a song playing, and if so which one, she proclaimed “I’ve been waiting for you to come round all morning” with a massive grin. (Always a good sign, as often many patients either feel too ill to listen, or have trouble remembering what songs they once loved). From then we got chatting and I loved her instantly. Despite being in and out of hospital regularly and suffering from an awful debilitating condition she was one of the bubbliest, chattiest, funniest, kindest people I’ve ever had the privilege to meet. I find the quality of having strength in the hardest times so admirable and inspiring, I wanted to chat to her for hours, literally!
We soon found we shared so much of the same music taste and it was so cool being able to ask her, her opinions on things, being the utter rock chick that she is :D. She also gave me some wonderful and humbling advice on life that I will remember, I’m so grateful for her kindness that it is one of the reasons I want to document it.
Her story is fresh in my mind, as when collecting requests yesterday, I was saddened to see her in for the third week in a row.

“What you still doing here trouble?”
“Mol! How are you chick?”

I was good, but i'd be even better if I thought she didn’t have to be in hospital. So yes... Marie, get better soon! I feel privileged to meet you and wish you the very best - Enjoy a bitta’ The Smiths! :D

Love,

Jack Johnson - Better together

Hello!

The weather is so nice today, it’s so lovely and unexpected for this time of year!
I love those days where it’s actually warm enough to just chill outside with friends, without turning blue or something; (Being the extremely pale English girl that I am, that’s quite a regular occurrence unfortunately).

It's been a good day - amongst a few requests for hospital radio this morning, someone mentioned a song by Jack Johnson. I love Jack Johnson but hadn’t thought of playing anything of his for ages, eventually choosing ‘Better Together’.
The sprightliness of it always makes me smile and it’s basically summer en-compassed into song!

Enjoy!

'YOLOing' A Bit Too Much and Greenday - Church On Sunday

Hello!

Haven't wrote for a few days as life's' been sooo busy of late. Everything's changing at the moment, in a positive way though!
I started A Levels on Wednesday and it's slightly daunting but mainly exciting to have the chance to meet so many; new, cool and interesting people.
So far I'm loving it, but all this commotion has left little room for writing (in my easily distracted case anyway).
However, we all need music and so I feel ready to write.

I've picked Greenday's 'Church On Sunday', as it was one of the songs that got me through my first 3 and quarter hour free period. (IPods are more of a God-send in college than anywhere else it seems).  It was nice that my iPod reminded me how good it is, as I've loved this song for years now and so it seemed right to post.

You may also be wondering where the cringey, but ironically used, 'YOLO' in my title comes from.
The answer being, my current mood at the moment.

I've always been quite feisty I would say. To the point where it might take me a few minutes to decide something, but when I've decided on what to do, I stick to it. However, lately I seem to be quite out of character in that a few of my decisions have been so spontaneous.
I became most aware of this today, as when walking down the High Street, I suddenly thought; "I want to get my ear pierced".
Oh and by the way if you're thinking 'one ear? That's a little odd...',  I should clarify I had both ears originally pierced years ago and mean adding another piercing in just one ear.
So I did.
As simply as that.
Without any pre planning, booking etc...
And I love it.

I do realise, there is a line as far as spontaneity goes though.
For example, if you didn't plan for tomorrow, you wouldn't have the fear to stop you from doing seriously stupid things. Obviously all actions have consequences and so you do have to think about the bigger picture, but that aside I think a little spontaneity is a good thing.  It's probably the only time when you feel like you're actually living and I guess that's where the excitement comes from.

So yes, all in all it's been a good and surprising day!

Take care,
Molly x

Birdy - Wings

Hello!

Woke up to a beautiful day and seen as I can’t get Birdy’s newest song out of my head, thought I may as well log on and waffle.

You may recognise it from a regularly played advert at the moment. (Like how casual I was there? Don’t want to mention the company under any breech of endorsement or something!). As soon as I heard it I fell head over heels, even the video is beautiful, though perhaps a little "‘Mr Brightside’ esque”?
However, despite my initial judgement, it isn’t a new song and was released in 2013.

Actually, the subject of the song is quite fitting to the lives many of my friends at the moment, who are flying the nest and venturing into the wonders of University life. I’m obviously going to miss them like crazy, but I’m honestly so excited for them! It’s amazing how life moves so quickly and how the pathway's we choose, change the course of it so dramatically.

Have a lovely day,

Molly x

HAIM - Falling

Hey!

If I'm honest I feel uninspired lately...As if the passion of opinion I had Mid-August, has now calmed (for the time being anyway).
I'm enjoying simply chilling and listening to music. However, I still love sharing music as I think it's nice to discover new sounds. The band I've chosen today is a good example of this.
A few weeks ago I went to see the film 'Paper Towns' based on the immensely popular book by John Green. The jealousy we all felt at the gorgeousness of Cara Delevingne (Who plays one of the main characters 'Margo') was apparent,  but partially remedied by a great soundtrack. The song "Falling" features about mid way through (I think?) and I loved it as soon as I heard it. Luckily the friend I was with was already familiar with the song and promptly told me it was by a girl  band called 'HAIM'.
Upon research I found that there are many reasons why I now want to be a fully fledged member. (Like that's ever going to happen *sigh*).
Aside from tunes that are so individual I could only describe the genre as ' rock/pop/indie/hippy style', the band is formed of three sisters and their drummer. I think a girl rock band in itself is pretty cool, never mind sisters?! Sure Debbie Harry would be routing for them!
They seem quite down-to-earth too, as in the early days of their band they played for free at churches, schools and hospitals. Even the name 'HAIM' is interesting and is the Hebrew word  for 'Life'. Lastly, THEIR STYLE IS AMAZING. So yeah, proper Fan-girling right now.

Enjoy!

Dancing Queen much?!

Hello!

I'll let you into a not- so- secret secret. I can't stop dancing. Literally.
Anyone who's close enough to me, knows that a night out usually involves me dragging everyone onto the dance floor. Whether they want to be there or not is of no concern to me.
That's what music is for after all!
There is one flaw...That being, I can't dance...
But who cares? We can't all be the Darcy Bussel's of this world (unfortunately) :(.
Anyway my love of dancing has now progressed in recent days to (cringe), dancing randomly in my house. Yeah, I know, it's a little sad and weird. But how can you not, when your lovely neighbour lends you 'Now' 91?
Like you can ignore the likes of Jason Derulo, Whiz Khalifa and Jessie J...

So, with the Godly album in mind, I'll pick today's song from it's playlist.

Rita Ora -Poison

As I usually go for Indie/80's music, this choice might surprise some people, but it's such a good song! I also love Rita Ora, she seems so genuinely nice.
When the single was released on the 18th May this year, it peaked to number 3 in the UK charts and it's not hard to see why. I love the rebellion in music and in chart music you don't really get more rebellious than this.

Enjoy!
Oh and keep dancing ;D
