Oh my goodness it feels like I haven't posted anything in ages! How are you doing?! Hope you're ok?!
Life's manic at the moment as I'm in the midst of taking my AS exams, which obviously doesn't leave much time for blogging sadly :(. However, in tonight's revision sesh, a certain very groovy guitarist has been pulling me through the heavy duty literature; and that's James Bay. He's an artist I absolutely love and is special in that I can listen to him pretty much anytime of the day, every day, if I'm honest! I discovered his music around the time I discovered Hozier's (another artist that gets a big thumbs up from me) as James's 'Hold back the river' charted at the same time as Hozier's 'Take me to church' and I don't think either of their most popular songs do them justice, in my opinion. I love so many of their other lesser known ones - in Hozier's case 'Cherry Wine' and 'Jackie and Wilson' (one I actually posted about ages ago) have to be my faves and for James, this track is just one of many that I love.
Bay's appeal I think, is the very unforced husky tones he has in his voice that just make it sound so beautiful, these of course being very useful when recording singles outside, like in this version.
I've chosen 'when we were in fire' purely because it's strangely motivating in revision and despite quite obviously basing itself in a relationship context, I relate to it on a different level also, of being young and living in the moment and having those times when you just stop and think 'yeah I'm gonna' remember this'.
I hope you enjoy it and I have a lovely evening soaking up the last of the sun :)
